The Timeline of our Universe

From Big bang to Heat death

I made a concise timeline recapitulating everything we now about the chronology of the universe from the Big Bang to its death (see here and here). Temperature and scale factors were calculated with the Friedman equation.

Visualization of the universe’s expansion including the cosmic inflation period. The inflation stopped when the vacuum energy state suddenly dropped by 108 orders of magnitudes to its current value. Details in this article.

Note that this timeline is assuming that proton will eventually decay. Some of the Grand Unified theories (GUTs) predict long-term proton instability with half-life between 10³² and 10³⁸ years, but it has not been experimentally confirmed.

To correctly visualize all the important events, I used a double-logarithmic scale. Note that the time from 0.1 to 10 years is collapsed to a single point 0, but that does not matter because nothing special happens in the history of the universe during that time.

Double-logarithmic scale
